As costumed kids take to the streets this year to trick-or-treat, motorists need to practice cautious driving even more than usual. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that traffic incidents are four times as likelier on All Hallows Eve than any other day of the year.

This Halloween, follow these three safety tips from FIAT of Winter Haven to keep yourself, and trick-or-treaters, safe and sound!

Slow Down

Slow your speed down, especially in residential neighborhoods, and be sure to fully obey all traffic signs and signals. Drive five mph below the posted speed limit to give yourself more reaction time in case kids dart out into the street.

Stay Out of the Dark

Make sure that your headlights, taillights, and turn signals all work. Not only will the light ward off scary ghosts and goblins, but it will also help you to see children better after the sun sets, and for them to notice you. If you need a new headlight, come into the FIAT of Winter Haven service and parts center today or call us to schedule an appointment.

Be on the Alert

Be on the watch for children crossing the street as they may not be paying attention to traffic.  Also, slow down at crosswalks and alleyways.

Having fun on Halloween can be a breeze. In case you are driving, adhere to these tips to make this spooky holiday fun and safe for everyone involved.
